| Summary, etc. | En mai 1750, les Parisiens se révoltent contre les enlèvements arbitraires d’enfants effectués par la police. Au-delà de la chasse aux mendiants déclenchée par l’ordonnance royale du 12 novembre 1749 qui semble servir de détonateur, ces émeutes n’ont-elles pas des causes plus profondes ? L’étude systématique des sources policières, notamment des enfermements de famille par lettres de cachet, permet de revenir au fondement du pacte social scellé entre le Roi et les Parisiens à partir de la magistrature du lieutenant de police d’Argenson (1697-1718). Il s’agit ici de comprendre les raisons profondes de l’altération de ce pacte et de la dégradation des rapports entre police et population dans les années qui précèdent 1750. Mais aussi de souligner les leçons que les autorités ont tirées de cette révolte pour répondre au malaise exprimé par les Parisiens, sans rompre avec une dynamique de transformation du système policier parisien. |

| Summary, etc. | In May 1750, Parisians rebelled against arbitrary infant abductions by the police. Leaving aside the chasing away of beggars unleashed by the Royal Ordonnance of 12 November 1749 which acted as a trigger, do these riots not have deeper roots? The systematic study of police sources, notably family imprisonments under lettres de cachets, helps get back to the basics of the social compact sealed between the King and Parisians on the basis of the magistrature of police lieutenant d’Argenson (1697-1718). This article sets out to account for the reasons behind the changes of such a compact and the deterioration of relations between the police and and the population in the years preceding 1750. It will also highlight how the authorities drew lessons from the protest to respond to the discontent of the Parisians, without breaking off the dynamic transformation of the system of the Paris Police. |
