| Summary, etc. | RésuméCet article présente les étapes successives qui ont marqué la courte vie de l’université virtuelle britannique lancée par le gouvernement travailliste en février 2000 (la UKeU) et analyse les documents publiés par les organismes publics de 2000 à 2005. Au fil de la chronologie, les dissonances entre les établissements du supérieur, le gouvernement et la UKeU apparaissent. Certaines figurent dans les conclusions du rapport de la Commission parlementaire publié en mars 2005, d’autres demandent une recherche plus poussée, toutes permettent de mieux comprendre les universités britanniques d’aujourd’hui. |

| Summary, etc. | This article presents the successive stages which have marked the short life of the British virtual university launched by the Labour government in February 2000 (the UKeU) and analyses documents from governmental bodies published between 2000 and 2005. As the chronology develops, disparities between higher education institutions, the government and the UKeU appear. Some will be in the conclusions of the report from the House of Commons Education and Skills Committee published in March 2005 ; all require further research in order to better understand British universities today. |
