| Summary, etc. | RésuméCet article fait le pari qu’une histoire sociale de l’enseignement supérieur à distance est possible qui rompt avec le récit communément admis du primat des innovations techniques dans le développement de cette forme d’enseignement. Au lieu du classique mouvement à quatre temps qui démarre avec l’apparition des services postaux, s’amplifie avec la radio, se poursuit avec la télévision et explose avec l’Internet, est proposée une autre temporalité construite sur l’analyse des discours qui circulent sur le territoire français entre 1947 et 2004. Ainsi, un autre mouvement à quatre temps est avancé, assez largement différent du précédent, qui donne à comprendre quelques caractéristiques de la situation actuelle de l’enseignement supérieur à distance en France. Ce travail constitue un nouveau fragment d’un projet scientifique initié en 2002 qui vise à explorer l’inscription des outils et médias éducatifs dans des institutions données (pour l’heure : l’université) et selon des temporalités qui veulent échapper au diktat d’un présent que les inconditionnels du progrès ont tendance à marier avec la technique. |

| Summary, etc. | This article claims the possibility of a social history of higher distance education that would break with the usual primacy given to technological innovation in the story of this form of education. Instead of the classical four times tempo starting with postal services, radio, television and Internet, here is another temporality built upon the analysis of the speeches circulated in France between 1947 and 2004. Thus another four times tempo is put forward, widely different from the previous one, and giving to understand the present situation of higher distance education in France. |
