520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | It is commonly argued that business practices between private companies and their suppliers in Japan differ from those in the U.S. and Europe in that long-term relationships tend to be maintained, formal contracts do not specify much detail, agreements are flexibly modified ex post, and litigation to resolve disputes is avoided. In contrast to this conventional theory, this paper presents the hypothesis that this practice has been changing since the 1990s, and that this change can be found in each industry according to the extent to which product architecture has changed from an integral to a modular design. In order to test this modularization hypothesis, this paper conducted a total of 17 interviews with business persons in the automobile, electrical, and systems integration industries. The results show that the hypothesis is true to a certain extent, but it cannot fully clarify some points. |
