| Summary, etc. | Penser la frontière comme marqueur spatial délimitant l’aire de validité d’un ordre juridique souverain ne rend plus compte de manière satisfaisante des nouvelles formes d’articulations entre espace et politique. Sous les coups de la globalisation, de l’intégration régionale, des revendications séparatistes et indépendantistes, les frontières connaissent aujourd’hui des transformations profondes tout aussi bien de leurs formes que de leurs fonctions. Dès lors, la frontière doit être envisagée comme une construction sociale, fruit de rapports sociaux et de pouvoirs, tantôt marqués par des liens de coopération, tantôt par des formes d’oppositions entre les acteurs en présence. Elle gagne de ce fait à être saisie par les outils de la sociologie. Elle ne se révèle plus, comme l’envisage le droit international, unique, linéaire et intangible, mais au contraire multiple, réticulaire et fondamentalement mobile. |

| Summary, etc. | Understanding “border” as a spatial marker delimiting the area of validity of a sovereign legal order no longer satisfactorily accounts for new forms of articulation between space and politics. Under the blows of globalization, regional integration, and separatist claims, borders are, today, undergoing profound transformations that affect their forms as well as their functions. Therefore, a border must be seen as a social construction, the product of social relations and powers, sometimes characterized by cooperation ties, sometimes designed by forms of opposition between the actors involved. The notion of border can thus benefit from the tools of sociology. It is no longer conceived, as envisaged by international law, as unique, linear and intangible, but on the contrary as multiple, reticular and fundamentally mobile. |
