| Summary, etc. | Cet article étudie le rapport entre la ségrégation des juifs dans les ghettos et les maisons des catéchumènes, qui virent le jour à partir de 1543 dans la péninsule italienne, dans le but d’obtenir la conversion de juifs, de musulmans ou encore de chrétiens non catholiques. C’est à travers l’analyse de ce rapport, largement soulevé par l’historiographie, entre ségrégation et conversion des juifs que nous tenterons de dégager des typologies en nous basant sur le moment de leurs fondations respectives et de mettre en relief l’éventuel impact que cela put avoir sur la population juive dans une localité donnée. Si cette étude constitue une première étape d’une plus large enquête à venir qui ne prétend pas à l’exhaustivité, elle permet d’envisager une approche comparative du phénomène et de le réinscrire dans une histoire plus générale des politiques et des pratiques conversionistes à l’époque moderne. |

| Summary, etc. | This article investigates the connection between the segregation of the Jews in ghettoes and the house of catechumens, founded in the Italian peninsula from 1543 onward with the aim of converting Jews, Muslims or non-Catholic Christians. Starting from this interconnection between segregation and conversion of the Jews and the concurrent foundation of the two institutions, rightly pointed out by historiography, we will try to delineate different typologies of this entanglement and evaluate their respective impact on the Jewish populations. This study is intended as a first step towards a broader, comparative research on this interconnection in light of a more general history of the conversionist politics and practices in the modern era. |
