Summary, etc. Father Riquet (1898–1993) was one of the best-known and most esteemed French Jesuits of the second half of the 20th century. As a disciple and then friend of Jacques Maritain, he became acquainted with the mystery of Israel and joined him in his battle for an opening up of Catholicism. In the 1930s, he became involved in the struggle against the growth of anti-Semitism. The part he played as an intermediary between the Popular Front government and the Catholic Church led him to build up contacts and a friendship that would prove decisive during the Occupation. As a member of various groups within the Resistance, he was able to involve the Church in his actions of rescue and defense of Paris Jews since he was well acquainted with its surroundings. On his return from deportation, he founded the Brotherhood of Abraham following Vatican II, an association working toward a theological and historical dialogue between Christians, Jews, and Muslims.
