| Summary, etc. | The flow of translations of foreign texts in the humanities and social sciences is one of the main factors in the transformation of Russian publishing and academic spaces in the 1990s. The dismantling of the Soviet structures of ideological and economic control of the printed word put an end to the monopoly of the big publishing houses and opened up the space of possibilities to small publishers who triumphed in the small production pole of the emerging market. The analysis of this space, which is structured in the course of the life of a generation of publishers and translators, questions several variables that predetermine the choice of authors and titles for translation into Russian. The article highlights the role of financial support from international intermediaries and private patrons in the structuring and professionalization of the new Russian publishing space. Through an analysis of the strategies and professional trajectories of several publishing houses over the last thirty years, the study traces the crucial stages in the evolution of the translation market in Russia in relation to the political, economic and cultural transformations of the country. |
