Summary, etc. ‪This article proposes a reflection on the researcher’s engagement with candomblé, an Afro-Brazilian religion with well-defined initiation stages. To highlight the role of the “engaged researcher”, this article presents a historical timeline of the Afro-Brazilian religions anthropology. Therefore, the studies about candomblé is analysed, observing how and whether, during the 20th century and the first years of the 21st century, researchers discussed their participation in this religion. The last part of this timeline is dedicated to certain cases of believers who have trodden the inverse track from the “engaged researcher”, since they engaged in anthropology.‪
