520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. In the densely populated Red River Delta, rural populations have developed craft and industrial activities linked to very intensive flooded rice cultivation for centuries. Since the economic liberalization of the 1980s, a thousand craft villages organized in clusters have modernized and diversified their production, with a pronounced division of labour between mostly informal firms. They attract several thousands of workers locally or from other provinces. In the context of its integration into the international market, the transition to market economy and the metropolization of major cities, Vietnam tries to attract foreign investment into industry by providing land and tax incentives. Industrial parks are built on large land holdings and hire a mostly migrant workforce. They contribute significantly to industrial development in the region. In this article based on surveys conducted in many craft villages and industrial parks, we will compare the two types of industries and examine the impact of the global industry on land and village workforce.
