520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Homonationalism refers to the inclusion of homosexuality in the national rhetoric produced in particular by the USA in their “war against terrorism”, proclaiming the superiority of the American civilization because it supposedly has abolished all sexual oppression ? whereas in fact gays and lesbians in this country continue to suffer from discrimination and to endure an oppression directly linked to their sexuality. Setting gay and Muslim identities one against the other, this discourse thus makes homosexuality a white reality. The article shows that this type of counterposition and the creation of a feeling of sexual exceptionalism (national and white) is not simply a feature of the discourse articulated by the American military and policy-makers but also by many activist and academic progressive layers, including feminist and queer ones.
