Summary, etc. | SBS (Shaken Baby Syndrome) is the most serious of all the cranial trauma suffered by the child. The average mortality rate is 20 %. Less than one quarter of the survivors are free from sequelae. Shaking, which constitutes a criminal offence, is a deliberate and extremely violent act, and one that is repeated more often than not. The child may subsequently be anything but an ordinary child, a point that must be taken into account in estimating their needs for third-party support. Diagnostic criteria have been defined based on the lesions recorded and the story as told by the adult. There are two missions to be implemented: the mission of attributing the lesions to SBS and the mission “Vieux” with its two specific aspects - the child and the cranial trauma for the sequelae. |
