520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | The article traces some developments of the votive institution ( neder) in biblical and rabbinic literature (in the period of Antiquity and Late Antiquity). From the perspective of the patriarchal political system articulated by the biblical and rabbinic authors, this institution was risky: it allowed a woman to turn her speech into a law and thereby undermine masculine domination. It is not a coincidence that most of the biblical and rabbinic discourses concerning the neder are dedicated to women and to the question of how to control and manipulate their vows. |
