Summary, etc. | An explanation is offered on the city name of the Roman colony in Hasta Regia by a Latin adaptation from the local cult to the historical reality of Italic migration and civic promotion. This argument is based on the literary and archaeological sources from Hipania Ulterior and Baetica, drawing on parallels in toponymy and evidences of similar cults. The progressive characterization of Mediterranean and Italic divinities is exposed which might have been used for the ancient definition of the tutelary goddess of Hasta. Finally, general and local data are interconnected to show the coherence of the interpretatio, a phenomenon that is also found at Ilici and Saguntum. |
