520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Caesar’s description of the attributes of the Gallic god Mercury and Strabo’s presentation of the colony of Lugdunum use a series of five similar themes. I try to explain this fact with the application of the “canonical formula” proposed by Levi-Strauss. This “formula” renews the arguments by analogy by introducing the dimension of change. The use of this “formula” shows in another way how the Gallic tradition is re-elaborated in the construction of a new cultural identity in Augustus’ time.
