Summary, etc. The aim of this article is to explain current knowledge about twin development. With the help of a historical review of the research undertaken from the 1930s to the present day, three development areas arise. Two of them focus on domination and twin identity development. There is a distinction between past and present research, relating especially to the way in which they can be understood. The third area is about twin language development. Both approaches that characterize it have been conducted alongside each other since 1930.
