Summary, etc. | Considering the notion of giving of oneself in care, the author puts forward the idea of a complex of dependence(s) through which different forms of shame cohabit. The clinical case of a man in his sixties suffering from diabetes, who was twice transplanted and had a history of chronic haemodialysis but who became a father by medically assisted procreation provides the starting point for reflections on the matter. Addressing the transference-counter-transference relationship between the caregiver and the patient, the author discusses our anthropophagy, i.e. this desire to be one with another. Finally, the matter of inter- and trans-generational issues relating to such gifts within the family body on which any caring body must rely is examined. |
