| Summary, etc. | The interpretations which turn out to be the most correct and the most striking are those which take their inspiration from the analyst. Do they carry the stamp of his emotions? Does he give birth to them painfully? His countertransference has been turned upside down by recent changes in couples and families as well as remaining one of the essential springboards of his therapy. Even understanding countertransference has changed lately when the ideas of group and link intersubjectivity were integrated in it. As an outsider to the family group the analyst finds himself gradually absorbed by it. He then wakes up worried by the strangeness of what he is living, which brings out the stranger within, his unknown. If countertransference implies regression, he can come out of it through the analytical elaboration he follows. This will be the platform of his interpretations. Furthermore, the analyst has the challenge of existing while being unobtrusive; of being somebody, but in the end to be the one referred to by transference; to suggest discussions without closing them; to be reassuring without trivializing difficulties; to respond to the attempts to affect him (the analyst) in reality by mentioning the fantasy aspect of these attempts; to remain determined while receiving conflicting opinions; to show himself as being liberal while sensing where the limits are. It is by integrating his own feelings that the analyst will be able to deal with the most topical and difficult moments of the session. For the analyst, the dilemma is not anymore to be or not to be, but to be a subject of the links, echoing with the others who are different from oneself and allowing oneself to change. |
