520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Does technical and vocational education provide individuals with networks that ensure effective protection against career risks? Using the “young” sample from INSEE’s 1997 “Youth and Careers” Survey, we see that school-leavers from the technical and vocational track are more likely to find their jobs through networks of contacts than school-leavers from the general education track. They find their first jobs more quickly and are better paid. However, once the effectiveness of the network has been taken into account, the way the first job is found does not influence school-to-work transition times or earnings. Once they have been accepted, job offers made through networks are no different from job offers from other sources.
