520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. This article presents the lo-fi genre in music (for “low-fidelity”, as opposed to hi-fi) as a form of resistance against the cult of speed. With their low-budget home recordings, practitioners of lo-fi question the deceptively self-evident distinction between “signal” and “noise”, pushing the listeners towards a more active role of participating interpreters. In their DIY practice, they also shorten the circuits of production. Most of all, by resisting the urge to make everything transparent and aseptic, they invite us to slow down, in order better to care for our mediations, even at the price of destabilizing communication: this slowdown and this caring for mediations may be at the core of ecological awareness.
