520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Based on the sacrifice and what she calls the “sacrificial mother,” the author of this paper identifies what infanticide is a symptom of. Sacrifice is seen here as unveiling a hidden collective or individual trauma. The unredeemable debt that comes with “giving life” is something to which only a mother’s unconditional gift can respond, the other name for separation. This paper hypothesizes that there is a strange economy of sacrifice in the realm of an obstructed or forbidden memory. Based on the figure of Medea, another face of infant slaughter by mothers appears. A way of saying “no” to the trauma that she is in charge of and in which she is embodied. The reality at stake is what binds sacrifice to truth: whom does the mother’s sacrifice of her infant address?
