Summary, etc. International adoption has recently come to a crossroads: since the mid-2000s, it has mirrored some major trends and changes in social behaviors worldwide. While life expectancy is increasing, it seems that the desire for motherhood or fatherhood now concerns everybody regardless of the generation. From now on, some criteria—which are specific for each country—will have to be taken into account. The same applies to the profile of families or children (siblings, older, or ill children, and those who carry a background of emotional deprivation or traumas). It is necessary for a lot of actors to participate in this process in order to implement new practices, to create new tools and technical supports, and to coordinate the different participants at every step of the adoption process in order to make future parents better prepared. Similarly, owing to the risks associated with these trends, it has become crucial for adopting parents to be conscious of the recent social changes in many countries so they can understand the type of environment in which their adopted children grew up.
