| Summary, etc. | RésuméÀ la fin du xxe siècle, la comédie anglaise se fonde de plus en plus sur une dynamique de la réécriture, qu’elle soit formelle ou thématique, littéraire ou historique. Cette omniprésence souligne les choix a-politiques d’une génération qui a rejeté le théâtre engagé des années 70 et 80 pour se tourner vers des formes moins didactiques. La forme parodique et le travail des textes antérieurs caractérisent aussi bien la satire sociale d’Ayckbourn et d’Elton que la comédie épistémologique de Stoppard et de Bennett, et fournit une structure ouverte, à la fois ludique et dialogique. |

| Summary, etc. | At the close of the 20th century, British comedy relies increasingly on the dynamics of rewriting, be it formal or thematic, literary or historical. This omnipresence highlights the a-political choices of a generation that rejected the radical theatre of the 70s and 80s and criticised thesis drama. Parody and the reworking of past texts characterise not only the satirical form adopted by Ayckbourn and Elton, but also the epistemological comedy of Stoppard and Bennett, and provide them both with open, non-didactic structures. |
