| Summary, etc. | European Kinship Today: Patterns, Prospects and ExplanationsThis paper presents findings from the quantitative analysis of network data – regarding mutual assistance, kinship awareness, and the spatial concentration of kinship ties. It demonstrates the existence of both macro-regional and urban-rural differences, and shows that there appears to be an elective affinity between involvement in farming and close kinship ties. I comment on the implications of these findings for different anthropological perspectives on kinship, and also for theories of contemporary changes in kinship and fertility patterns. Finally I consider the relationship between kass’s quantitative and ethnographic findings, and their joint implications for future theory-building and research. |

| Summary, etc. | ZusammenfassungEuropäische Verwandtschaft heute : Muster, Aussichten, und ErklärungenDieser Beitrag stellt die Ergebnisse der quantitativen Datenanalyse von Netzwerkdaten im Hinblick auf gegenseitige Hilfe, Verwandtschaftsbewusstsein und die räumliche Konzentration von Verwandtschaftsbeziehungen dar. Die Ergebnisse zeigen die Existenz von Unterschieden entlang der makro-regionalen und städtisch-ländlichen Achse auf und weisen auf eine gewisse Affinität zwischen landwirtschaftlicher Tätigkeit und engen Verwandtschaftsbeziehungen hin. Ferner werden die vorliegenden Resultate im Hinblick auf ihre Tragweite für verschiedene anthropologische Perspektiven auf Verwandtschaft sowie auf Theorien des gegenwärtigen Wandels von Verwandtschafts – und Fertilitätsmustern kommentiert. Abschließend betrachte ich die Beziehung zwischen quantitativen und ethnographischen Befunden des kass – Projekts sowie deren gemeinsame Implikationen für zukünftige Theoriebildung und Forschung. |
