Menée au tombeau des Patriarches, l’enquête ethnographique se concentre sur les sentiments intenses que la rencontre avec des Palestiniens suscite chez un groupe de colons, l’auteur proposant de voir dans cette confrontation une lutte pour le lieu sacré. Afin d’éclairer la signification que les lieux ultimes revêtent aujourd’hui en Israël, l’article présente également un autre point de vue sur la situation dans les territoires occupés : celui des soldats chargés de veiller sur les colons. |

An ethnography taking place at the Cave of Machpela focuses on the intense feeling brought about by an encounter with Palestinians that can be construed as a struggle over the sacred place. For the settlers, their existence in the town represents the wider reality of Israeli society. Through bringing an alternative perspective, that of the soldiers guarding the settlers, the essay comments on the meaning of ultimate places in Israel today. |
