Summary, etc. The current model of global governance is characterized by the interaction of several non-linear systems and variables. This creates a complex environment that poses significant challenges for the EU and other political and economic actors in the North and South. Fragility, security amid climate threats, and digital transformation constitute a challenging global framework for the EU and its global partners. In this article we analyze some of these complex governance systems that the EU faces. We argue that we need to move beyond traditional regulatory approaches that focus on rulemaking, compliance, and enforcement by adopting new governance frameworks. These must include improving the interaction between science and politics by fostering dialogue on complex environmental decisions and actions, such as the interaction between climate change and digitalization. More effective collaboration between different sectors—including the private sector—can help improve governance structures in order to achieve sustainable outcomes in a world of complex systems.
