Summary, etc. | Lacan substitutes the opposition of having/not having (the penis) that characterizes the difference between the sexes with the opposition of having (for the boy) and being (for the woman). This results in a cascade of consequences for clinics as well as for culture. These include the non-existence of sexual rapport, the reciprocal antipathy between the genders, but also this relative lability, visible in particular through this division of the feminine wherein the feminine being comes up against the fetishistic jouissance of the mother who wants objects and things. The mother can, via marriage—join the camp of male domination. This essay illustrates the lability of the feminine from Jeanne, who remains on the side of being, to Sygne, who betrays everything and becomes a mother. Man is less labile because if he chooses the camp of being, he becomes helpless. |
