Summary, etc. | Contrary to Nazi and Soviet statements, the debacle of September 1939 did not signal the end of the Polish State. Its existence was preserved on the juridical level and on the international level too, since its highest authorities set themselves up in exile: at first in France, and then in the United Kingdom, and in terms of a civic resistance in multiple forms, especially in non-military guise. The extent of this resistance, together with the recognition of the authority of this government in exile, created the phenomenon known as the Polish Underground State (Polskie Państwo Podziemne – PPP). This article presents in detail the different forms of PPP action that evolved in time, in accordance with Poland’s international situation in the course of the war. |
