Summary, etc. | The art of the Eastern icon, which the West discovered in the second half of the twentieth century, is commonly seen as rooted in respect toward intangible canons. But certain artists within the Orthodox tradition have developed their own style and revived this art. Such is the case of the painter Julia Stankova. The theme of Abraham’s hospitality, which inspired Rublev’s famous Trinity, is present in all her works, and illustrates both her creative freedom and her loyalty to the essential elements of the icon, this “art of encounter.” |
