Summary, etc. The ongoing chaotic situation in Somalia draws its origins from the country’s past. Siad Barre’s regime and the civil war that ravaged the country since the 1980s resulted in the division of the society. The emergence of warlords and gang leaders led the country into a spiral of violence that has not stopped to this day. The interests of clans, individuals, and even neighbouring states have mingled and are opposed to each other’s preventing any political solution to the crisis. As for now, with Somalia in the spotlight again, two main projects oppose each other. One argues for the reconstruction of the country with a transition government that would take into account the interests of all actors. The other, known as the “building blocks” policy, argues in favor of a federal state grouping regional entities based on a clanic logic. As long as neither of these two propositions prevails over the other, the current situation seems destined to continue.
