Summary, etc. | Since 2009, China has become the world’s largest car manufacturer and the world’s largest car market. Between 2000 and 2012 full year production of vehicles in France experienced steep declines (-37.2 %) and the share of the French auto industry decreased from 5.7 to 2.3 %.Given the background of French deindustrialization, and as Renault and PSA have created new ties with the China’s automobile industry, it is interesting to focus on the strategic choices of both industrial groups during their history to (try to) shed light on the future. Between state interventionism and unbridled expansionism of the car makers worldwide, what place for Renault and PSA today who are highly dependent on their allies, Nissan and Dongfeng? |
