| Summary, etc. | Albert Cohen publie en 1938 un roman intitulé Mangeclous, tiré, dit-il, de l'énorme manuscrit de Belle du Seigneur pour faire plaisir à sa fille et aux éditions Gallimard qui attendent depuis huit ans la suite de Solal. Dans ce roman, rabelaisien par bien des aspects, les Valeureux, cousins céphaloniens du personnage principal, vivent une vie faite de chimères et d'initiatives souvent catastrophiques. Dans ce livre hanté par l'approche du second conflit mondial, Albert Cohen développe un humour sans frein qui ne sera égalé dans aucun de ses autres livres. Jamais le roman Mangeclous n'avait fait l'objet d'une étude spécifique. Il fallait combler cette lacune. |
