Summary, etc. Since the beginning of the mandate of President Jair Bolsonaro, the Indigenous peoples of the Amazon are facing an extremely aggressive policy against the rights that were granted to them through the 1988 Constitution, especially as far as land is concerned. The pressure against them takes multiple forms, some direct (attempts to change the legislation, depletion of the agencies in charge of Indigenous population, etc.) and some indirect (like the creation of a context where deforestation runs highs, spilling over Indigenous territories), all supported by a political and religious ideology which chastens multiculturalism and differences, and by economic lobbies eager to tap the natural resources contained in the Indigenous territories.Facing such pressures, the Amazon’s Indigenous peoples can rely on the Judiciary, but only as long as legal texts are not modified, or conservative judges named in supreme instances. They also resist through the communication of their situation, nationally and abroad, as well as through an increasing participation into the Brazilian political system. Indigenous women have gained an increasingly important role in this resistance.
