520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. This research, based on twenty-one in-depth interviews with scientific journalists, explores how they investigate and contextualize scientific articles in the field of biomedical research. These journalists remain highly dependent on their sources, which, for two main reasons, are rarely called into question. First, the editorial constraints and short deadlines to which journalists are subject lead them to rely unquestioningly on the press releases provided by scientific institutions. Second, the peer review system of evaluating scientific publications is taken as a measure of their validity, which effectively curtails journalists’ ability to think critically about scientific discoveries.
