In France, however, the term “marche” is only rarely used to designate political “processions,” as they were called before 1914, and which are now referred to as “défilés,” “cortèges,” and, especially, “manifs.” This article focuses on the demonstrations that can be called “marches,” analyzing the meanings that are implied when organizers prefer to name them with one term rather than the others. |
