Summary, etc. | In 1936, the Third Reich adopted a four-year plan that sealed a new economic and political deal for the nation. Despite featuring novel objectives, it had serious flaws, as it relied on massive food import and on the unwavering value of the Reichsmark. Its implementation was founded upon a presupposed large influx of currency, which the Reichsbank could only secure through a policy of territorial conquest. This economic need was at the root of the nation’s belligerent drive for expansion, perhaps even exceeding the regime’s ideological recommendations. |
