Summary, etc. Sexual dysfunctions are common during the evolution of multiple sclerosis (MS). However, they remain under-diagnosed and under-treated. The objectives of this study were to assess the prevalence of sexual dysfunctions in patients with MS and to determine the factors that could promote the occurrence of these disorders. We conducted a cross-sectional and analytical study of forty-two patients with MS. We used the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) to study the severity of disability related to MS and the Rosenberg Scale (RSE) to assess self-esteem. Male sexual function was assessed by the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF15) and that of females by the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI). The prevalence of sexual dysfunction in MS patients was 66.7% (65% of men and 68.2% of women). Low self-esteem was noted in 59.1% of women and 55% of men. Sexual dysfunction was statistically correlated with a higher EDSS score, a longer duration of illness, a presence of vesico-sphincterian disorders, and low self-esteem.Our results highlight the multifactorial origin of sexual disorders in patients with MS. The adoption of a multimodal approach is thus essential to detect, assess, and treat sexual dysfunctions, often overlooked in these patients.
