| Summary, etc. | This 1911 study, revised in 1924, deals with “the logic of the concept of number” and more precisely with a distinction, through an analysis of the number “one,” the “equal” sign, the “plus” sign and the notion of “series,” between two fields of competence: Rickert insists on limiting the importance of the field of logic by showing that mathematics contains an alogical element that does not relate to pure logic and is essential to its formation as well as its approach. His position is therefore a criticism of logicism directed towards Frege and above all Natorp, but stops short of constructivism while adding to it a possible new point for discussion. |
