Summary, etc. | Being listened to by “everybody” and getting one’s best sentences collected in a quotations book, these are clearly two related aspects of symbolic power : this particular authority which is confered to the producers of certain discourses which can simultaneously be defined as the result of some kind of power. These discourses are universally or quasi-universally efficient, at least apparently. This article analyses the way this symbolic power is used by leaders of central banks and tries to understand what are its deep roots. These roots lay in particular in different types of legitimacy, among which the scientific legitimacy has a particular position. |
