Summary, etc. It is a matter of re-reading Claude Duchet’s article, “For a sociocriticism, or, variations on an incipit”, which opens in 1971 the first issue of Littérature, in the immediate intellectual context of its publishing. Three articles offer us a starting point for this study: “The critical relation” (Jean Starobinski, 1970), “Literature: generativity of the sentence” (Serge Doubrovsky, 1970) and “From work to text” (Roland Barthes, 1971). Each of these articles will alternately highlight the critical, theoretical and methodological issues of the rising sociocriticism which the essayist writing of Claude Duchet here enlivens.
