| Summary, etc. | This article aims at providing a linguistic description of acronyms based on a corpus gathered from newspapers, television, advertising campaigns, and scientific publications. The first part is devoted to the process of forming abbreviations and acronyms in Arabic. Thus, the rarity of such formation in Arabic is compared to that in French. In the second part, the discussion is about the external and internal motivations that cause such phenomena. The third part describes the syntactic status of abbreviations and acronyms in Arabic. The last part comments on the insertion and lexicalization of such units in Arabic. |
