Summary, etc. | In this contribution, I start by reflecting on the evolution of discourse analysis by drawing on my personal career, which developed in line with the progressive institutionalization of this field of research. In the second part, I will bring to the fore some challenges that discourse analysis is currently facing. Four points will be raised: a) discourse analysis is fragmented into many trends, but it is especially hard to grasp its whole configuration; b) discourse studies increasingly have to deal with the transformations caused by the Internet, which at the same time provide new kinds of data and deeply alter the conditions of scientific research; c) traditionally, discourse analysts study data from ordinary conversations, media, education, health or politics, and this has a significant impact on their basic assumptions, their concepts and their methods; I think it necessary to investigate new corpora; c) discourse analysis has emerged across national scientific cultures: what happens when the field of research becomes global? |
