520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Based on conversations with members of Kabyle-speaking families in a context of social mobility in Algeria, this article examines the transmission of Kabyle outside the geographical area of Kabylia. The materials include testimonies and life stories related to languages that members of these families have agreed to share on condition of anonymity. We find that the vitality of this transmission of Kabyle appears to be threatened among under-40s and is almost nonexistent among under-20s; this is a direct consequence of the policy of Arabization and the spread of urbanization and the nuclear family lifestyle, which is where we see the break in the chain of agents of this transmission. In addition to the decline in the daily use of this language in favor of dialectal Arabic, particularly within the nuclear family, this intergenerational decrease can be seen in the context of Kabyle orality as well as in the traditional Kabyle processes of choosing first names.
