Summary, etc. | The ties between the world of cycling and the Church are very real, despite the bad reputation of this sport due to doping scandals. Shedding light on the existence of a veritable spirituality of cycling, as Madeleine Delbrêl had already described it, can draw on the values that are specific to this sport. Christian educators have sometimes drawn on the the example of the practice of cycling. The sport enables its practitioners to experience the meaning of perseverance in their efforts, while also discovering that they rely on others. It is both an individual and a team sport, and as such gives rise to a certain relationship between the human being, the machine and nature that is quite different from that of motor vehicles. The bicycle remains in balance when it is in movement, and makes the cyclist attentive to the world around him or her, fully aware of his or her fragility. |
