Summary, etc. Policies that were conducted in communist Bulgaria to create a classless society resulted with a deeper fragmentation of the Bulgarian population. The distinctive ethnic and religious identity of the Turkish minority was perceived as a threat. Therefore, a campaign was conducted to replace the Turkish names with the Bulgarian ones. Oppressive policies of the Bulgarian Communist Party created negative sentiments among the members of the Turkish minority with the revival process. The democratic claims were not welcomed by the government and some of the dissidents were imprisoned while some of them sent into exile. Massive protests against the communist government had a catastrophic impact on the communist regime in the country, and brought an end to the totalitarian regime.
