Summary, etc. Recent research has shown that, despite the importance of the concept of organizational performance in franchising, the determinants of franchisee performance have not received enough attention. In this paper, we focus on the impact of control mechanisms on franchisee performance. To empirically test our hypotheses, we conducted a questionnaire survey among a sample of 103 franchisees based in France. Our empirical findings confirmed the positive impact of social and behavioral control mechanisms on franchisee performance. We did not, however, observe a significant interactive effect of social and behavioral control mechanisms on franchisee performance. In sum, our paper contributes to the literature by extending the research on the relationships between franchisees and franchisors, and by explaining how control mechanisms used by franchisors affect franchisee performance.
