Summary, etc. | The French Revolution described the basic territorial unit of civil solidarity as “commune.” Beyond its reduction to the notion of “territorial collectivity” by state urbanization during the industrial age, today’s cities are reclaiming this political etymology to become a major environment for the development of the common. Democracy is asserting itself and is becoming productive in and through cities. It should be our top political priority to privilege the point of view of the city over that of the nation-state as the main focus for recomposing public life. |
