Summary, etc. | Iran (especially post-revolutionary Iran) suffers twice from its misrepresentation. Not only has the gap widened within its borders between social diversity and the Islamic Republic installed since the revolution of 1979. In its perception outside, this revolution has also reactivated culturalist readings. In this article, we mobilize the concept of “representation”, in its political and aesthetic meanings, in order to draw another picture of the tensions between Iranian society and its State. The government’s blockage of democratic representation has led Iranian society, in search of its image, to turn to increasingly aesthetic modalities. These sensibilities influence the political landscape, just as aesthetic representations are always susceptible to receive and carry political meaning. It is this conflict of images in the Iranian context that we are interested in. |
