Summary, etc. This paper discusses the reform of secondary school teachers’ training set to be implemented in September 2010. By this date, the students who have passed the final competitive exam will all hold a master’s degree and will no longer benefit from lateral entry training focusing on acquiring the disciplinary and theoretical skills to pass the teachers’ certification examination. Under the former system, such training was provided after graduating from university, but during the first year at work. In order to meet the present-day demands of teaching, this reform requires future teachers to begin receiving professional training during undergraduate studies. The opposition by the administration, due to economic considerations, to secondary school teachers’ worries about their status and to university professors who are suspicious of diplomas they consider to be ill-defined may prove this reform is just a delusion whose only consequence will be the suppression of the sandwich courses provided by the IUFMs (teacher training colleges), which was the aim from the very start.
