| Summary, etc. | Both common opinion and theory tend to reverse the natural relationship between reality and representation, arguing that represented landscapes should come before real landscapes, both chronologically (the represented landscape is the origin of real landscape) and logically (there is no real landscape unless perceived as an image or with reference to an iconic model). To contest the legitimacy of this way of ordering things, we demonstrate that real landscape and the experience of it have specific features that do not fit the representational model. These features primarily involve the spatial continuity between perceiving subject and perceived landscape, and imply a connection between multisensory perception and bodily movement across the landscape. |
